1. Introduction to Multimedia

Multimedia is the computer-controlled integration of text, graphics, images, audio, video, animation and interactivity.

A multimedia system captures, stores, processes, transmits and presents different forms of digital media. It makes information more visual, interactive and easy to understand.

3. Text and Hypertext

Text is used for headings, instructions, captions, menus, labels and detailed explanations. Important properties include font family, size, colour, alignment, spacing and readability.

Hypertext is text containing links that allow users to move between related documents or sections.

4. Graphics and Digital Images

Graphics include photographs, drawings, icons, charts and illustrations. They improve visual communication.

Raster Images

Vector graphics use mathematical lines, curves and shapes and can be resized without quality loss.

5. Digital Audio

Digital audio represents sound as a sequence of numerical samples.
  1. A microphone captures analog sound.
  2. Sampling measures amplitude at regular intervals.
  3. Quantization assigns numerical values.
  4. Encoding stores them in binary form.

  • Sampling rate: samples taken per second, measured in Hz.
  • Bit depth: bits used for each sample.

6. Digital Video

Digital video is a sequence of image frames displayed rapidly to create motion.
